    Responsibilities

    The English Language Learner Instructor performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting instructions to assist students who are English Language Learners. 

     

    • Primarily responsible for the instruction of English Language Learners to students from diverse backgrounds.
    • Responsible for helping student improve English language skill, achieve TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) gains obtainment in assigned areas, and/or High School Diploma/High School Equivalency obtainment.
    • Responsible for meeting department goals and objectives as assigned by department manager.
    • Promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting in order to insure maximum learning.
    • Maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom setting in order to insure maximum learning.
    • Documents student's records according to requirements of required handbook and standard operating procedures; accesses and inputs all relevant student data, including but not limited to: student attendance, performance, progress, positive behavior, and disciplinary incident; reports all significant incidents immediately to Supervisor.
    • Establishes a high degree of student/instructor rapport.
    • Utilizes provided curriculum resources, implements new curriculum, and develops curriculum through Educational learning plans.
    • Assesses and makes recommendation of student awards as approved within the Centers student incentive plan.
    • Assists in the completion of all necessary Job Corps forms and entering case notes at least once per month for each student assigned.
    • Accountable for the cleanliness of classrooms.
    • Prepares reports, requisitions, and prepares evaluations of student performance in a timely manner.
    • Monitors and reviews daily each student's progress to ensure students are making adequate progress and performing their own work.

    Qualifications

    Minimum:  Bachelor's degree.  Certified to teach in the state in which center is located.  Experience instructing English Language Learner students.

     

    Preferred:  On year in a teaching capacity with disadvantaged youth.  The ability to speak multiple languages is a significant qualification.

     

    Knowledge Required: Knowledge of required subject area, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, excellent organizational skills, must obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/First Aid certification, ability to motivate and inspire students, ability to effectively relate to student population.
