    Responsibilities

    The Accountant performs a variety of professional accounting duties such as monitoring various general ledger accounts, preparing and reviewing journal entries, etc

    • Processes all accounts payable and vendor invoices. Compares invoices with authorized purchase order and receiving information. Verifies purchase order and invoice allocation per established protocol and chart of accounts. Monitors general ledger allocation and account balances.
    • Completes required internal documentation, vouchers, data entry, and automated match to timely and accurately prepare invoices for payment from corporate office.
    • Regularly reviews invoices and accounts payable status and communicates with vendors, purchasing agent and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate processing of payments.
    • Prepares monthly journal entries for assigned accounts according to established schedule
    • Maintains the internal checking account (Imprest Fund), including all required invoices, documentation, and expense allocation according to established policies and procedures
    • Reviews account balances and general ledger activity to locate, identify and resolve all data entry and accounting errors
    • Maintains all Center physical accounts payable records, related ledgers and banking documentation as required by CSD, Job Corps and Department of Labor policies.
    • Performs analysis of various general ledger accounts by reviewing entries, compiling and comparing transactions, determining and resolving open items, and interpreting trends and/or deviations. This includes occasional special analyses as required
    • Trains bookkeeper in coding of accounts and inventory control
    • Maintains inventory systems established by the Finance Manager
    • Prepares special reports as required
    • Fills in for Bookkeeper or Finance Manager in his/her absence

    Qualifications

    Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related area and one year’s work-related experience required or Associate's Degree and 2 to 5 years work-related experience required.

     

    Preferred: Two years or more work-related experience.

     

    Knowledge Required: Must possess sound working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, good organizational skills; ability to work with detailed information, excellent math skills,  ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately, proficient in the use of personal computer; working knowledge of software applications, e.g MSExcel; MSWord or Word Perfect, excellent communication skills including technical skills, both oral and written
